History of the Radiant Cut Diamond
Diamonds became popular as ornaments in jewelry in the 1400's and the different techniques and styles of diamond cuts such as the Radiant Cut Diamond were gradually developed over many years. This particular cut was created in 1977 by Henry Grossbard of the Radiant Cut Diamond Company (RCDC). The 'Original Radiant Cut' had 61 facets (not including 8 girdle facets) maximizing the effect of its color refraction. It was the first emerald shaped diamond cut to have brilliance, sparkle and fire similar to that of a round brilliant diamond.
Description of the Radiant Cut Diamond
The description of an Radiant Cut Diamond is: A square or rectangular shape with clipped corners combining the the elegance of the emerald shape and the brilliance and sparkle of the round shape. Aspect ratio of a Radiant cut: The ratio of the length to the width should be about 1.3 -1.5:1.
Radiant Cut Diamond - the Cutting Process
Diamond Facets are the smooth surface areas of a diamond which are cut and polished to control the brilliance and the durability of a diamond. A skilful diamond cutter brings out all the brilliance and sparkle of a diamond by choosing the most appropriate cut, such as the Ascher Diamond cut.
